It has been known for generations that U.S. studios got their highest gross sales overseas. Some say this is one of the causes in lack of diveristy in film. It is also no secret that during the rise of Naziism, U.S. studios catered to the German moviegoing audience, often getting the most sales in Germany. This was one of the reason U.S. studios were very careful not to distribute any films that seemed anti-Nazi.
Despite some blockbuster openings for a few epics, U.S. sales genrally fall behind their overseas sales. So it is not a surprise to discover that China is set to become the highest-grossing cinema territory in the world next year, based on the rise in its takings over the past 15 months. In the last quarter, revenues from cinemas in the mainland of China rose by 50%, in line with rises witnessed throughout 2015.
