So what’s been happening at Toronto?

Have you been wondering what’s happening at the Toronto festival (TIFF)?  Not much.  TIF played hardball again this year and threatened films if they showed at Telluride first.  There are rumors that they even threatened some films against showing at the Venice Film Festival.  So what did TIFF get?  A whole bunch of films with mixed reviews. La La Land does continue to be the “feel good” movie of the year (if you can handle musicals).  Elle with Isabelle Huppert did not fare as well as it did at Venice although Huppert gets the nod as a top Oscar contender.  Snowden which did not show at Telluride has not fared well anywhere.  LBJ gets positives but nothing special about it.  Supporting my belief at Telluride, Rooney Mara gets good marks for Una but the film itself turns people off and in my opinion is not getting a fair shake.  Manchester By the Sea continues to be the favorite for the upcoming award season.  It is the best to date at least.  Rachel Weisz is being touted as Oscar nomination material for Denial but she has a powerful challenge for that slot in both Kirsten Stewart for her role in Personal Shopper and Natalie Portman in Jackie.

I will begin posting analyzes some of the festival films come mid October.  I don’t want to play spoiler too early.

I am interested to see what surprises NYFF brings.

Buy the book and read it before attending your favorite festival.  I promise you will get a lot more out of your festival experience.
