There is an important thing to remember about the Golden Globe Awards. The voters are all journalists of the Hollywood Foreign Press. There are a total of only 90 members in the organization. None of these members are working in the motion picture industry.
There were two Golden Globe awards that shocked me tonight – Best Director and Best ScreenPlay. Both of these went to La La Land’s Damien Chazelle. I do not believe either will stand up when the craft awards come out. Likewise the rest of La La’s awards came in the best musical film category. Wait until those folks are up against the drama personnel. The fact that Casey Afleck won Best Actor in Drama and Moonlight won Best Picture and Isabelle Huppert won Best Actress (She is not eligible for a SAG award) portends for a wild award season. Here is the chart to watch :
Screen Actors Guild – Nominations are out. Awards are January 29
Directors Guild – Nominations announced Jan. 12, Awards February 4th
BAFTA (British) – Nominations announced Jan. 10, Awards Feb. 12
Spirit Independent – Nominations are out, Awards – Feb. 25
Oscars – Nominations announced Jan. 24, Awards Feb. 26
Meryl Streep never ceases to amaze. Her speech tonight was moving, right-on and beautiful. Can’t wait to see the Trumpster tweet that she can’t act or is irrelevant.<LOL>
You were right on Trump’s tweet! Called Meryl an overrated actress! He’s pathetic.
She was spot on. Also loved Hugh Laurie’s acceptance speech that she referred to.
Check it out on You Tube if you missed it.
I knew Trump was going to be his usual juvenile self in his tweet response. He didn’t disappoint!
