Last week Variety reported that Harvey Weinstein’s spokesperson had reached out to the magazine, on his own accord, to issue a statement on behalf of Weinstein regarding She Said, the film which chronicles the work of New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey in breaking the long-suppressed story of Weinstein’s chronic sexual predation of women while he ran a movie studio. . The spokesperson stated that Weinstein was gloating over She Said’s slow start and knocked the film.
Commenting on the Variety story, Brian Hieggelke of Newcity magazine in Chicago, stated today, “ Hearing this amplified my desire to see the film and I bought tickets to see it as soon as I could. I was deeply moved by the accomplishments and courage of the reporters who broke the story, as well as the women who found the resolve to speak on the record and break the silence. …. Movies that appeal to older audiences are still struggling to get an audience at the theater and that’s a real problem, because this is what determines what we see on our screens in the future.”
I urge all of you to go to a theater to see a movie. It matters.
I recently saw the movie and it was riveting. I so respect the dedication of the two women reporters — all while being a mom, too!
