The Screen Actors Guild presented its 2023 awards Sunday night. That leaves only one major award ceremony – the Oscars-remaining. The SAG awards ensured that the Oscar races will be tight. Voting for the Academy Awards begins Thursday March 2nd and ends Tuesday March 7th . You can download your own ballot at https://tinyurl.com/4bhdpy38 . All Quiet on the Western Front which won 7 top prizes in the BAFTAs was not eligible for SAG awards. The film has 9 Oscar nominations. Everything Everywhere All At Once winner of 4 of the 5 top SAG awards has 11 Oscar nominations.
The SAG Awards has one of the best track records with the academy: SAG has only missed five times in Best Actor, seven times in Best Actress, nine times in Best Supporting Actor and eight times in Best Supporting Actress. In its 25-year history, SAG has only had a direct match in all four Oscar acting races eight times including 2022. It usually goes 3/4. My prediction is that this year will be one of the few times it only goes 2/4.
The evening of March 12th should be fun.
