CIFF DAY 5

LUXEMBOURG, LUXEMBOURG

There is nothing on the technical side for this film that deserves recognition. Camerawork and editing were mediocre at best, script lacking. Seemed like a film school lesson.

CORSAGE

Beautifully shot with a soft camera and a slight tint. Editing allowed for relatively smooth transitions. Vicky Krieps portrayal of the Empress is strong and she carries the film. Rosa Hjjaj as her young daughter is excellent. The film is not true to history and its use of 21st century pop songs, salty language and the single digit salute ensure that you realize that this film is more allegory than anything else. Despite its era the music seems very appropriate and part of the storytelling. Krieps has never been one to avoid nude scenes and keeps her track going in Corsage with a full frontal that is appropriately used.
