In an interesting article in The New Yorker,(https://tinyurl.com/2n6det8b) Rachel Aviv lays out the conflicting stories that raise the question as to whether Iranian director Ashgar Farhadi stole ideas from his students to make his own films. In a counter-suit to Farhadi’s claims of defamation, one student Azadeh Masihzadeh is claiming the Farhadi’s A Hero is mostly based upon her documentary which was shown at a few film festivals. In April, Masihzadeh was found not guilty of defamation. The court in Tehran also ruled that there were enough similarities between Farhadi’s A Hero and Azadeh Masihzadeh’s documentary All Winners, All Losers to proceed with a trial. The trial is still pending.
