Fisherman’s Friends

Sometimes, I am just not in the mood for a serious film but want to view something to just relax and pass the time. Such was the case last Friday night when I decided to watch Fisherman’s Friends: One and All (2022). This is a sequel to Fisherman’s Friends (2020).
The original film is based on the true story of ten fisherman from Cornwall who are signed by Universal Records and achieve a top ten hit with their debut album of Sea Shanties. It is based on the true-life story of Cornish folk band, Fisherman’s Friends. The description for One and All is “Following the unexpected success of the band’s debut album “No Hopers, Jokers and Rogues”, we re-join them almost a year later, struggling with the pressures, pitfalls and temptations of their newfound fame, second album syndrome, and performing on the pyramid stage at Glastonbury.” Both films are rated as drama, comedy and musical and each contains an element of pathos.

Other than the music there is nothing special about the films, except that they are fun to watch, even if sometimes it is for the character’s stupidity. Both films have great music and absolutely wonderful landscapes. I purchased the soundtrack CD after watching the original. I knew a few of the shanties in both films but most were totally new to me. There is a love story in each film.

Give yourself a relaxing evening and watch them both.
