A Cinephile’s Resources

I am frequently asked how I keep up with all the film details and news, so below is a list of my subscriptions. I highly recommend that you subscribe to one or more of them.

American Cinematographer Magazine – Monthly E-edition and or paper.

Cineaste-Magazine on the art and politics of the cinema. Quarterly paper edition only

Film Comment – published by Film at Lincoln Center. Presently only publishing online newsletters. Not sure when the monthly paper edition will resume.

The Hollywood Reporter – Available with e-edition and or paper. Publishes both daily newsletters and weekly edition.

IMDb Pro – Information on a film, industry trends, professional contact information.

The New Yorker Magazine – Separate from its reviews the magazine has several great articles on film notables throughout the year.

Sight & Sound Magazine- published monthly by BFI-British Film Institute (My favorite) Available with e-edition or paper.

Variety Available with e-edition and paper. Publishes both daily newsletters and weekly edition.

The New York Times— A. O Scott and Manohla Dargis (I follow both newspaper and twitter accounts)

ChicagoTribune— Michael Phillips (I follow both newspaper and twitter account)

  1. It has two separate sections–the stories and the reviews. Stories include — behind the filmmaking, interviews with directors/actors, film history,current film news etc. I have learned so much from reading the magazine.
